Webmin

At the beginning, I'm totally have no idea about managing Linux server to run DHCP and DNS service. Do not dare to start learning how to configure all text files. I known about webmin long time ago, but I heard about the security issue, so I decided to do not use it for a long time, and I don't like to manage this stuff via web browser. Every click it has to reload the whole page, that takes time.

Time changes, think changes. The web site technology has been developed, better looking interface. I come back to have a look on webmin again, and wow... this is much better than I think. So, why not I should try it before I decide that it's not good. Otherwise, nobody will use it. And, I like it... hahaha.

There was a story about Windows Server Activation problem. Normally at home I'm testing Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Network Infrastructure Server, running DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory. The Windows GUI makes my life much easier for noob like me to manage networking function in my network, especially DHCP and DNS. But there is a big problem about license and product activation, up to now I have to reinstall OS every 90 days, because of Product Activation Warning.

Now I decided that I will move my Network Infrastructure from Windows Server to Linux Server (Ubuntu 6.06) for DHCP and DNS service. Using webmin 1.360 to configure and manage these service is not too hard for me to learn... ^^

What is Webmin?

Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix. Using any modern web browser, you can setup user accounts, Apache, DNS, file sharing and much more. Webmin removes the need to manually edit Unix configuration files like /etc/passwd, and lets you manage a system from the console or remotely. See the standard modules page for a list of all the functions built into Webmin, or check out the demo and screenshots.
